JOB SUMMARY:

This job is responsible for supporting and driving the plan of care and providing comprehensive remote oversight of the care of patients on a medical-surgical or telemetry unit. The virtual model will include collaboration between the bedside team and virtual care members where an incumbent will anticipate and direct the care of the patient through evaluating health promotion, risk reduction and advanced clinical decision-making. Â

An incumbent assumes accountability for patient care outcomes through the assimilation and application of evidence-based practice to design, implement and evaluate care. This is accomplished through coordinating, delegating and supervising the care provided by the unit-based health care team, including RNs, LPNs, certified assistants, hospitalists, specialty physicians, social workers, case managers and allied health professionals. Â

Work requires a high degree of professional competence and autonomy will be demonstrated in performing the roles of 1) clinician, 2) educator, 3) consultant/collaborator, 4) leader. Â

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Â * Collaborates virtually with physicians, nurses and other health care team members in the provision of clinical patient care, including virtual assessment of the medical, physical and psychological status of patients and responding to routine, urgent and emergent patient issues.
  • Proactively oversees the patient care plan to implement preventive measures that improve patient safety and the quality of care delivered via telemedicine technology and surveillance of physiological trends; drives risk reduction through participation in root cause analysis (RCA’s), quality surveillance as well as the compilation and interpretation of large data sets of patient information.
  • Effectively coordinates communication with members of the bedside interdisciplinary team.
  • Supervises the comprehensive care of patients through coaching and mentoring bedside nurses and other care team members.
  • Collaborates with unit leadership and provides oversight of unit quality programs and metrics; ensures evidence-based practices are being followed by team members to provide the highest quality care and safety for patients.
  • Supports management to ensure all aspects of clinical operations are conducted and documented in compliance with relevant internal policies, standards/procedures and applicable regulatory requirements; assesses, on a continuous basis, services, patient outcomes, quality control and family/patient satisfaction to ensure optimal care and delivery; ensures that internal controls are sufficient to provide for accurate, complete and compliant programs and processes; identifies need for changes in standards, programs and services and develops recommendations for consideration by unit and hospital leadership.
  • Monitors processes in collaboration with bedside staff and provides recommendations for care delivery improvement.
  • Participates, as a key member of the management team for the assigned clinical function, in the development of strategies, initiatives and programs addressing matters such as: standardization of procedures across the organization, enhancing patient outcomes/satisfaction, enhancing team engagement, improving nurse satisfaction and other issues of similar complexity and consequence.
Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements

BSN degree (or must be actively in pursuit of a BSN degree), graduation from an accredited school of nursing, and three years of related acute care work experience, which includes one year “leadership” experience. Outcomes management experience also required.

Master’s Degree in Nursing is preferred. Â

Licensure/Certification
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Washington State Board of Nursing.
  • Basic Life Support certified within six weeks of hire.  Â
If classified as Virtual Integrated Care RN Cert: current Certified Medical-Surgical RN (CMSRN) is required. Â

**Sign-On Bonus paid in lump sum within 30 days of hire. Eligible candidate must have a minimum of one year of RN experience in this specialty area, may not be a current employee of Virginia Mason Francican Health, nor previously FTE-employed with VMFH within the last 12 months. Minimum of 0.6 FTE required, and total amount paid is prorated to the FTE. Requires a 2-year commitment.
