Role Description
The Warehouse Receiving Supervisor oversees and coordinates the daily activities of the receiving department to ensure the efficient and accurate intake of all incoming shipments. This role involves managing a team of receiving clerks, maintaining safety and productivity standards, and optimizing inbound processes to support overall warehouse operations. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong organizational and communication skills, capable of resolving issues and driving continuous improvement.
Supervise, train, and develop a team of warehouse associates in receiving, unloading, and stocking procedures.
Assign daily tasks, manage workloads, and conduct performance evaluations.
Manage and coordinate all receiving operations, including the scheduling of deliveries, unloading of goods, and sorting of merchandise.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of all incoming shipments.
Verify the accuracy of all incoming shipments against purchase orders and documentation.
Lead regular cycle counts and full physical inventory counts to maintain inventory accuracy.
Enforce all company and regulatory safety policies, including safe forklift operation and proper material handling procedures.
Maintain a clean, organized, and secure receiving area.
Identify areas for operational improvement and implement strategies to increase efficiency, productivity, and accuracy within the receiving department.
Use data from key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive improvements.
Serve as the main point of contact for internal departments (e.g., inventory, sales, customer service) and external partners (suppliers, carriers) regarding inbound shipments.
Address and resolve any receiving or inventory discrepancies.
Maintain accurate and detailed receiving records and reports, utilizing a Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Qualifications
A minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a warehouse or distribution center environment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
High school diploma or equivalent required. A bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred.
Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), inventory control software, and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Forklift operation certification or experience is often required. Knowledge of OSHA standards is a plus.
