Vice President – Traffic Engineering & Transportation (Texas)
We are seeking an experienced Vice President – Transportation to lead and grow our client’s Texas business. This is a strategic leadership role focused on driving business development and strengthening client relationships across local transportation agencies, delivering innovative solutions that improve mobility, safety, and infrastructure performance.
This is a remote position, with candidates required to reside in Texas (ideally Austin, San Antonio, or Houston).
The Opportunity
This role is heavily focused on business development and relationship-building, particularly at the local agency level across Texas.
You will play a key role in expanding the company’s footprint by leveraging existing relationships and developing new ones with city, county, and regional transportation agencies. While the business has strong existing ties with TxDOT, there is a critical need to grow local agency engagement and project capture.
Candidates do not need deep ITS-specific experience but should have strong transportation exposure through civil engineering, infrastructure, or construction environments, with the ability to confidently engage transportation stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute Texas growth strategy with a focus on local agency business development
Drive business development activities including:
Pre-positioning and client engagement
Proposal development and interviews
Contract negotiation and project capture
Build and expand relationships with local and regional transportation agencies across Texas
Leverage an existing network to open doors and win work at the municipal and county level
Serve as Project Manager or Principal-in-Charge on key transportation projects where required
Collaborate with technical teams across traffic engineering, transportation planning, and ITS delivery
Represent the business through client engagement, industry events, and professional associations
Mentor and support business development and project delivery teams
Identify market opportunities and align service offerings to client needs
Travel across Texas as needed to support client engagement
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation, or a related field
Professional licensure (PE, PTOE, etc.) is beneficial but not essential
15–20+ years of experience across transportation, civil infrastructure, or construction-related sectors
Strong business development track record, particularly with non-TxDOT / local agencies
Demonstrated ability to win work and build relationships at the city, county, and regional level
Existing network of contacts within Texas local transportation agencies
Experience working around transportation/traffic/ITS projects (direct ITS expertise not required)
Strong commercial acumen and client-facing leadership skills
Ability to translate transportation experience into meaningful client conversations and opportunities
Self-starter with the ability to operate autonomously in a senior leadership capacity
Key Focus
This role is less about deep technical ITS delivery and more about:
Who you know (local agencies)
Your ability to win work
Your understanding of transportation environments (civil/construction/infra is fine)
If you're a well-connected transportation professional in Texas who can walk into local agencies, leverage relationships, and drive business growth, I’d welcome a confidential conversation.
