Salary: $40.23 Hourly Location : Atqasuk, AK Job Type: Full time Job Number: 16-25-086 Department: Public Works Division: Water/Sewer Opening Date: 10/13/2025 Closing Date: 10/24/2025 5:00 PM Alaska Summary or Purpose Supervise the operation and maintenance of the water utility system, which consists of four-system types, water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment and wastewater collection. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Perform the functions of the Water Utility Systems Operator. Communicate and coordinate effectively and professionally with all public works department personnel. Supervise, evaluate and schedule work for the water utility system's O & M staff. Assure that customer service requests and complaints are responded to promptly and effectively. Submit all required reports to the appropriate regulatory agencies in a timely manner. Keep the water utility system in compliance with all state and federal regulatory sampling requirements. Keep the lotus notes water and wastewater process control database up to date. Keep all portions of the MP2 program that relate to O&M of the water utility system up to date. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures. Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications. Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience. Ability to obtain a valid Alaska driver's license that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria within the 6 month probationary period. Lead Water Utility Systems Operator must be certified at a level equal to or greater than the classification of the system under the operator's control. This is a career ladder position for which the incumbent will receive pay increases for operator certification obtained based on the attached schedule. The inability to obtain the required operator certifications may result in loss of employment. If the incumbent fails to renew certifications as required, the ADEC will consider expired certificates as not valid therefore the incumbent's rate of pay will be adjusted accordingly. Environmental Factors and Conditions: As described above, this job requires working with close proximity to raw sewage and wastewater and occasional unintentional contact with raw sewage is possible. While Hepatitis B vaccinations are not required by OSHA regulations, they are required for this position by the Borough unless specifically waived in writing by the employee. A vaccination waiver form must be signed by any employee who chooses not to be vaccinated. Vaccination(s) for employees are provided at no cost to the employee. This is a career ladder position.
